Skilled Independent visa (subclass 189)

Applicants must have an occupation on the MLTSSL list and have high points to get an invitation from the DHA. This visa provides the applicant with full permanent residency once approved. The primary applicant can include their family members (spouse and children) on their application. Please note that applicants are expected to have higher than 65 points to receive an invitation.

Skilled Nominated visa (subclass 190)

Permanent Residence (Skilled Regional) visa (subclass 191)

The Permanent Residence (Skilled Regional) Visa (Subclass 191) allows individuals holding a qualifying visa who have lived for at least 3 years in a designated regional area and who have also earned the specified income amount, to reside permanently in Australia.

The visa can include eligible members of your family. You do not need a sponsor or be nominated for this visa.

You must:

  • Hold a qualifying visa for at least 3 years prior to the visa application as listed below
    • subclass 491 Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) visa; or
    • subclass 494 Skilled Employer Sponsored Regional (Provisional) visa
  • Have complied with the conditions of the qualifying visa while in Australia (as detailed above), including any family members holding the same qualifying visa as a dependent
    have lived in a designated regional area for at least 3 years on a qualifying visa (as detailed above)
  • Have earned an Australian taxable income of at least the income threshold specified, for at least three years while holding your qualifying visa
  • Have functional English or pay the second visa application charge
    meet relevant health and character criteria, including any family members holding the same qualifying visa as a dependent

Temporary Graduate visa (subclass 485)

This visa will allow you to work unlimited hours anywhere in Australia during the length of the visa. You will also be allowed to study and travel in and out of the country during the length of this visa.

Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) visa (subclass 491)

This visa requires you meet the points test and be nominated by a State or Territory or a family member living in a regional area.

Should you be nominated by a state or territory, you will be awarded 15 points. This means that you only need to achieve 50 points to reach the minimum requirement of 65 points.

The minimum criteria for the visa (subclass 491) is as follows:

  • Under 45 years of age
  • Competent English
  • Have an occupation on the relevant list
  • Have a valid skills assessment in a suitable occupation
  • Be nominated by a state or territory or sponsored by a family member
  • Satisfy the points test
